Peters Township Fishing Derby

In August of each year our Club partners with Peters Township Parks and Recreation to hold a Fishing Derby at Peterslake Park for kids in the K - 5 grades.  Prizes are awarded in a number of categories and a good time is had by the kids, their families and everyone putting on the event.

2013 Event Recap

Thanks go out to Peters Parks & Rec, and a number of generous sponsors who enabled us to have great awards and really nice prizes for all the kids.  Also, thanks to President-Elect, Kristen Painter for handling (literally) almost all the fish measuring duties; Tony Zuloaga and Harry Funk for taking photos; Mike Silvestri for keeping thing organized; and Al Delucia and Gary Rosensteel for general assistance.

We set a new record for participants, 72, and had wonderful weather.  Strangely, though, the fish were NOT biting, as indicated by the largest fish being 11" and the most caught being around 20.  Parks & Rec once again did a super job in liniing up tons of prizes for the kids and getting the event organized.

Award Winners

Most Fish - Aaron Martire
Biggest Fist - Angelise Zakis

2012 Event Recap
Although Saturday morning was overcast and cool it didn't stop people from flocking to our annual Fishing Derby, which we conduct in conjunction with the Peters Parks & Rec department.  We set some new records this year for participation (63 kids) and fishing results.

In prior years the Biggest Fish prize normally went to a 13 - 14" fish, but we blew WAY past that this year.  Early on we had a 21 1/2" one, which was then overtaken by a 24 1/2" and then later in the competition a fish was presented that literally went past the end of the measuring board at 27 1/2"!  Seems Peterslake Park is growing them much bigger now!
